Part 17: Bitter End Yacht Club and Saba Rock to Trellis Bay

Saturday, 26 February 2011

We awoke in Malone Bay, Virgin Gorda to another wonderful breakfast aboard Breanker. It was a bit windy today, but still beautiful as ever.

After breakfast, Kristian dinghied us over to the Bitter End Yacht Club. We all relaxed on the oversized wooden chairs and soaked in the beach and scenery. Tiffany and I walked up the beach and found quite a few conch and starfish just offshore. There were windsurfers

From Bitter End Yacht Club, we took a water taxi over to Saba Rock, which is a small resort island in North Sound. It was a nice place. We ordered some french fries & drinks and looked around.

One cool thing about Saba Rock, was the display of S.S. Rhone artifacts. They had one of the anchors and a cannon from the shipwreck. The S.S. Rhone went down in a hurricane in 1867, and has become one of the best wreck dives in the British Virgin Islands.

After our stay on Saba Rock, we took another water taxi ride back to Bitter End Yacht club, where we waited for Kristian to pick us back up. Once on board Breanker, we had a tasty lunch awaiting us.

After lunch, it was time to take the final, bitter sweet long sail back to Trellis Bay on Beef Island. We left Malone Bay, sailed west, and exited North Sound between Anguila Point, Virgin Gorda, and Mosquito Island. We then turned southwest and went past the Dogs (George Dog, Cockroach Island, Great Dog, and West Dog). After the Dogs, we turned more towards the west, past Scrub Island, and finally back into Trellis Bay.

After settling back in, we had a Happy Hour and then our last, wonderful dinner. After dinner we dinghied over to The Last Resort restaurant to see the Singing Chef. Bill got up and sang a few songs. We had some drinks, but Tiffany and I were extremely exhausted. After a few hours, we dinghied back to the boat for our final night of sleep aboard Breanker.
