Part 13: Peter Island - Natural Beauty at its Finest

Thursday, 24 February 2011

We awoke this morning in The Bight Bay, Norman Island, to a wonderful breakfast of fresh fruit, bagels, and yogurt.

After everyone got their fill, we put up the sails and headed back into the Sir Francis Drake Channel on our way to Peter Island. We were sailing up wind, so we had to tack (sail in a zig-zag pattern). We first went directly north towards Sea Cows Bay on Tortola. When we got very close to Tortola, we turned around and headed back southeast towards Peter Island.

We arrived at Peter Island in Deadman's Bay. It was one of the more beautiful beaches I'd seen thus far on the trip.

We dinghied to the beach, and headed to the Peter Island Resort. It was hot, and the cold drinks at Dead Man's Beach Bar & Grill really hit the spot. Most of the group had a Peter Island Connection, which they had heard about back home. I had my typical Presidente beer, and Tiff got a frozen Mango drink.

It was nice and hot out, but I really wanted to walk up the hill and get some good pictures. With cameras in hand, I made the long walk up the road, and I will say, it was definitely worth the trip. I had breathtaking views of Breanker in Deadman's Bay, Dead Chest Island, Tortola, and several other islands.

After about ten minutes, I stopped taking pictures and made my way back down to sea level. I saw Tiffany and Dee on the beach, so I stopped and had another refreshing, ice-cold Presidente. The beach was beautiful, so I took a few more pictures.

After my visit with Tiffany and Dee, I headed on another long walk to the lookout on the eastern edge of Deadman's Bay. At the top of the hill, near the ruins of an old foundation, there was a small lookout. Again the views were amazing. This time I could see the majority of Peter Island.

I got plenty of good pictures of Peter Island, and I happened to notice the rest of the group heading back to the dinghy pickup point to get back on the boat. I made my way back down the rocky road to Little Deadman's Beach. Kristian brought the dinghy over and we all jumped in - Navy Seal style.
