Coki Beach, St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands
About Coki BeachCoki Beach is a beautiful white sand beach well known for its snorkelling and the Coral World tourist attraction. Situated on the north side of Coki Point on Coki Bay, beachgoers have views of the Leeward Passage and several small islands, including Hans Lollik Island, Thatch Cay, and St. John. SnorkelingThe snorkeling is best at each end of the beach, especially near the rocks, but there is plenty to see straight out as well, including a very large barracuda, as well as a school of Caribbean Squid. You can rent snorkel gear for $5 from one of the vendors. Recent Violence at Coki BeachIn mid July of 2010, a teenaged cruise ship passenger on her way back from an excursion to Coki was killed in the crossfire of some local men who were shooting at each other near the cemetery. The violence sparked a cleanup effort, with authorities hauling away tons of trash, abandoned vehicls and boats, as well as repairing a fence around the cemetery and cleaning up the brush on the roadsides.
